Department of Allied Health Sciences

Introduction

University of Health Sciences was established with the objective of promoting, emerging technologies and strengthening neglected fields. The department of Allied Health Sciences was established with focus upon developing an important component of health care delivery i.e. Medical Lab Technology. Higher education in Allied Health Sciences is virtually non-existent in Pakistan. The department is presently running two years M.Sc Medical Lab Technology course. First two batches comprising of twenty eight (28) students have completed M.Sc Medical Technology course. The third batch of thirteen (13) students is in first year.

  • Full time 2 years M.Sc. program in Medical Technology and will include classroom lectures and laboratory training.
  • All students shall undergo rotation in disciplines of pathology including histopathology, hematology & transfusion medicine, medical microbiology, immunology and chemical pathology (two months each) during the 1st year of their education. A satisfactory report from the concerned supervisor of student is compulsory.
  • By the end of 1st year student will select his area of specialization. He will also select the topic of research and prepare synopsis for thesis.
  • During the 2nd year of education, the student will work in the field of specialization in any of the disciplines of Pathology. In addition research work will be carried out on the approved project. Thesis will be submitted well in time before the end of 2nd year.

Facilities

The Department of Allied Health science is equipped with state of the art equipments for training of the students. The lab has facility of Sysmex XS 1000i, semi automated and fully automated chemistry analyzer, fully automated random access hormone analyzer, ELISA, Karyotyping Cytovision 3.9, atomic absorption spectrophotometer and PCR.

  • Anti-typhoid Activity of Gatifloxacin As Compared to Other Anti Typhoid Fluroquinolones Marketed in Pakistan
  • Evaluation of Antimycobacterial Activity of Allium Sativum (Garlic Oil) Against 50 Strains of MDR-TB
  • Comparison of Conventional Most Probable Number (MPN) With Standard Membrane Filtration Technique For The Bacteriological Analysis Of Drinking Water.
