Do I need to pass separately in theory & practical to be declared successful in MBBS/BDS examination?

 Yes, For MBBS/BDS Examinations You need to secure 50% in aggregate of SEQs, MCQs and Internal Assessment to clear the theory component and 50% in aggregate of Oral & Practical and Internal Assessment to clear the practical component of examination.

However, you will only be declared successful in any one subject if you secure at least 50% separately in theory and in practical examination.

In case of clinical subjects for example Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pediatrics Medicine, one shall have to pass the clinical examination with 50% separately and also with 50% marks in aggregate of Oral & Practical, clinical and Internal Assessment.



Do I need to pass separately in theory & practical to be declared successful in postgraduate diploma examination?

 Yes, For Postgraduate Examinations to pass the examination one shall have to score 60% marks in aggregate of theory papers and 60% marks in oral & Practical / Clinical Examination separately.



Do I need to pass separately in theory & practical to be declared successful in the postgraduate examinations?

 Yes, for MD, MDS, MS, MHM, MMCH, MPH and M. Phil (Community Medicine) Examinations 60% in each paper of theory examinations separately and 60% in Oral & Practical examinations are required to be declared successful in that examination.



Is there any negative marking?

 There is no negative marking in any examination.



Who assesses the papers and what is the criteria of assessment?

 Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors who have been recommended by the concerned Authorities are appointed for paper assessment and paper setting.

At UHS there is centralized paper marking with fictitious numbers and one Paper Assessor is assigned one question of the question papers. The assessment is based on a standard answer key provided to the Assessor.



How is the result prepared?

 The results are prepared question wise with fictitious numbers and every award is represented in the result sheet.

The result is decoded half an hour before the declaration.



Will there be Different Question Papers administered or the same paper at different Colleges?

 Same question paper is administered at all affiliated medical colleges for the one particular examination. However in the MCQ component of the theory examination, the sequence of MCQ & the stems within them shall be shuffled. The content of the paper shall be the same for all students to maintain standardization.



What is the MCQ paper ID?

 It is a 12 digit alphanumeric code available at the top right corner of the MCQ question paper. It represents the answer key relevant to that particular paper and it should be reproduced accurately in the designed area on the MCQ response form as well as the attendance sheet.



What sort of roll numbers will the University issue to the candidates?

 The University from annual 2007 examinations shall issue a 06 digits roll number and it has to be reproduced accurately in the designated space in the MCQ response form as well as on the attendance sheet.



Do we have to return the MCQ paper with the MCQ response form at the end of examination?

 Yes, at the end of the designated time for the MCQ component of the examination (Theory) you should return the MCQ question paper with the MCQ response form to the supervisory staff.



Can we write anything on the MCQ question paper?

 No, you should only write your roll number and put down your signature against it in the designated space on the MCQ question paper.



Is the University going to provide us with a 2B pencil in the examination centre?

No, all material to attempt the paper should be brought in by the examinee. The examination department will only provide scripts for attempting SEQs and an MCQ response form for registering your MCQ responses.



What is the re-checking process?

Re-checking means re-counting not re-assessment and is undertaken by a committee of subject specialists who also look for any unmarked previously un-assessed portions during the re-checking process.



What should we do to apply for re-checking?

The stepwise process to apply for the re-checking is explained as under:
  • Collect the Application Form from the office of the principal/UHS Regional office or from the office of the Controller of Examinations University of Health Sciences, Lahore or download from the University web-site www.uhs.edu.pk

  • Fill in the Application Form carefully, all particulars should be filled in properly in capital letters and attach the copy of Detailed Marks Certificate to the form.

  • Deposit the re-checking fee which is Rs:2500/- (two thousand and five hundred) for one subject in the form of a Demand Draft in favour of the Treasurer, University of Health Sciences, Lahore and attach it with the application form.

  • The application form should be forwarded through your Principal, to the Examination Department.


What should one do to get Duplicate Detailed Marks Certificate?

The stepwise process to get Duplicate Detailed Marks Certificate is explained as under:
  • Write an application describing the reason why you need a Duplicate Detailed Marks Certificate, in the name of Controller of Examination University of Health Sciences, Lahore.

  • Attach the Demand draft of Rs:1000/ (one thousand only) in favour of the Treasurer, University of Health Sciences, Lahore, with the application.

  • Attach a copy of the lost Detailed Marks Certificate (if possible) with the application OR provide comprehensive information including Reg. No, Roll No, Exam Name, Passing year etc.

  • The application should be forwarded through the Principal to Controller of Examinations.


Do I need to pass separately in Viva and Practical to clear the Practical component of Basic Sciences subjects in MBBS/BDS examination?

For MBBS/BDS Examinations
In case of Basic Sciences, you need to pass the Viva and Practical Examination in aggregate and not separately.

For Theory
You need to score 50% marks in aggregate of SEQs (Short Essay Questions), MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) and Internal Assessment

For Practical
You need to score 50% marks in aggregate of Oral & Practical and Internal Assessment.
